FiddleKicks is an Appalachian clogging group based in Philadelphia. This uniquely American dance form evolved in the southern Appalachian Mountains, emerging from a melting pot of influences  Celtic, African and Cherokee  to create a new genre of folk music and percussive dance closely tied to the driving rhythms of the fiddle and the banjo.

FiddleKicks follows in these historic footsteps, clogging up a storm to live old-time music. One of our costumes includes prairie dresses that evoke the down-home feel of the pioneer days, while another has a more modern look. Our routines, as staged, are danced in tap shoes.

Formed in 1996 and based in Philadelphia, we also branch out into other forms of traditional percussive dance and music, such as Cape Breton, French Canadian, English and Irish  performing at a wide variety of venues, including concerts, festivals and community events.

Our programs are closely tailored to the audience, and can be of short duration or run to 90 minutes with instrumental interludes. Audiences love our toe-tapping music and high-energy dancing. After performing a few numbers we often have audience participation where the youngsters (and not-so-youngsters) get to learn a few clogging steps and do a circle dance.
